Use
1
Sign in to Blackboard and open the course whose roster you want. Any page inside the course works (the Roster page is a good choice), as long as the address bar contains the course ID, such as /courses/_12345_1/ or course_id=_12345_1.
2
Click BB Roster + Emails on your bookmarks bar. A new window opens and shows Loading roster and email addresses…
3
When the roster appears, use the buttons at the top of the window:
Print — opens your browser's print dialog (the buttons are hidden on the printout). Choose Save as PDF to keep a copy.
Copy all emails — copies every address, separated by semicolons, ready to paste into the To or Bcc field of Outlook or Gmail.
Show email addresses — uncheck it to print the roster without emails.
Click any email address to start a message to that person.
The roster is sorted by role (instructors first, then teaching assistants, course builders, graders, students, and guests), then by last name. Members whose enrollment is disabled are left out, matching Blackboard's own roster.
Troubleshooting
“Open a Blackboard course … before using this bookmark.”
You clicked the bookmark outside a course. Open the course first, then click it again.
“Your browser blocked the roster window.”
Allow pop-ups for your Blackboard site (look for the blocked pop-up icon in the address bar), then click the bookmark again.
“Blackboard refused the roster request.”
Your Blackboard account may not be allowed to read course members through Blackboard's REST API. Contact your Blackboard administrator.
A member shows “No email address available”
Blackboard has no email address on file for that person, or your role isn't permitted to see it.
Some other error appears
The error box lists an error code and the bookmarklet version. Include those when reporting the problem.
Privacy
The bookmarklet runs entirely in your browser. It reads the roster from your own Blackboard site using the login you already have, and it sends nothing anywhere else. Because it uses the Blackboard REST API, the roster is complete without scrolling or clicking “Load more.”
Updating
When a new version is released, delete the old BB Roster + Emails bookmark and drag the new one from this page. The version number appears on the loading screen.
